2016 Workshops

When designing rituals and protocols for Power Exchange relationships (or for our personal lives), we may not know where to start, so we find ourselves reaching for an “Off the Rack” solution. Often we look to porn, fictional novels, or nonfiction guides to Power Exchange. Like a short girl buying jeans, however (surely I’m not the only one??) those rituals sometimes aren’t a perfect fit for the people or the relationship. In this class, we’ll take a look at Archetypes, and use those to dive into the ways we define ourselves and our roles in the relationship. We’ll then build on that understanding to craft rituals and protocols that are “Tailor-Made” just for us! Whether you’re currently in a Power Exchange relationship or not, this class will offer you another tool for your Power Exchange Toolbox, and a method for devising rituals and protocols that fit like a glove! This process also creates powerful and personally relevant rituals for people who are either not in a relationship or who simply want to include rituals as part of their self-care routine!

What is BDSM and why is it so fucking fun!?!?! What is a Dominant? A submissive? What does BDSM stand for anyway? Get the basics on BDSM and kink in this lecture and discussion class.

If you identify as a Caregiver, a little, or are just curious about this kink dynamic, come and share your experiences with how you found your role and what it means to you

Flogging can be an excellent warm up or an entire scene. They are one of the most basic tools and are often the first purchase a new kinkster makes. This class is designed to teach the basics of techniques, differences in flogger materials and effects, safety tips and the power and energy exchange available to a top and bottom during a scene.

What you find in your local thrift, kitchen, hardware or big box store can produce all kinds of fun!

Change is inevitable. And, as with most things, in a poly lifestyle change often comes in multiples. mir facilitates this discussion on the transitional periods that affect poly dynamics — new relationships, endings, status changes — and the ways to navigate them that create more joy and growth instead of stagnation and fear. Whether you are poly or poly-curious, this class will give you solid ideas of the unique challenges faced in poly dynamics and how to handle them when they arise. Please come share your experiences and challenges as we all look together for solutions.

Every relationship has agreements – whether spoken or unspoken. Thoughtful, deliberate agreements can create harmony and purpose in your poly relationships. But where do you start? This class will give you tips and tricks for creating your individualistic relationship agreements and adapting them to change within your ever evolving bonds.

Our closest genetic relatives in the animal kingdom, Chimpanzees and Bonobos have two very divergent societal structures. While evolutionary psychologists debate which one early humans most resembled, those practicing polyamory can and should examine how feelings of scarcity and abundance can impact your poly relationships. If love is infinite and only time can constrain it, what is enough time? Enough sex? Love? Money? Privacy? Unity? Is it really just a matter of perception? mir leads a discussion into what we can learn for our primate relatives and how we can use it to enhance our poly relationships.

We are changed by sexual abuse. It can happen in childhood but even as an adult it can cause you to question your basic beliefs about sex. It can cause shame. Sometime times I go through the shame defiantly, sometimes trying to be “normal”. Neither holds the key. Slowly over the years I found a few things to help me feel better. I hope in this workshop we can find some of those things for you. If you have worked passed some of your issues great! Come and help the rest of us with the keys you have found.

If you identify as a Caregiver, a little, or are just curious about this kink dynamic, come and share your experiences with how you found your role and what it means to you

This class will address rope as a means of communication and connection, rather than tying down furniture. We will discuss ways to touch and move your partner, building tension in a scene, and how to use the rope to “express your intent”. Please bring rope if you have any. If not, some rope will be available to borrow. Rope 101 is recommended, but not required.

What makes you tick? How do you stay in prime operating condition? Examine your practice, preferences and values and how to articulate those values to partners or potentials for more successful relationships. An outline will be provided and we will brainstorm more ideas of what to include also. Prepare to delve deep into the inner working of YOU.

With so many kinds of exciting, shiny, and dangerous types of play in the scene, it’s easy to overlook the value of cunnilingus in your kink-arsenal. But this humble sexual staple can be a powder keg for those willing to look beyond their preconceptions. (i.e. not just for FemDom couples) Come discuss the physicality, the psychology, the technique to giving & receiving quality lip service.

It’s show and tell time! Bring your toys, your suspension rigs, and your curiosity. This is where campers show off what they got and learn what they haven’t yet played with.

Introduction to Flogging. Feel the need to beat your partner?
Here is how to do it!
Our class will begin with some safety tips and warnings then a brief history of flogging, followed by an explanation of the parts that make up a flogger and their purpose. From there we will cover the various materials that make up the falls of a flogger, their design and effects. Then we venture into geekdom, break out your pocket protectors folks; we will cover the physics that makes those floggers hurt so good. Then we get down to it and show you how to do those fancy throws you see all the Domly Dom’s do in the dungeon. Lastly we will cover music and the importance of the beat and how to pull it all together to make your partner soar. Last but not least, some helpful hints on aftercare.

Sex advice columnist Dan Savage coined the abbreviation term Good, Giving, and Game. The idea behind it is that an ideal partner should strive to be Good in bed, Giving “equal time and equal pleasure” to one’s partner, and Game “for anything—within reason”. In this lecture and discussion Soror Ariadne will guide you through the labyrinth of discussing consent, fantasies, hard limits, and in-play communication with your partner(s).

Why are there so many kinky people at poly meetups? Why are so many BDSM players in non monogamous relationship structures? Is it possible to honor a power exchange dynamic and still be poly? Come to the “Intersection of Polyamory and BDSM” workshop and discuss these and other important questions with your facilitators Mysty Mayhem and her boy ryan.

Many people in our culture carry the notion that sex and spirituality are impossibly far removed from each other. I, and others like me, strongly disagree with that idea. We have come to understand that sex is one of the most effective paths the Divine and enlightenment. It is a deep Sacriment. This workshop will cover some of the basic themes, traditions, and philosophies behind the concept of sacred sexuality.

In this class our panel will lead an exploration of what it means to be submissive, the many ways submission can be expressed and what to do if you suspect that you may be a submissive. A great class if you’re considering a Dominant/submissive relationship or if you’re just trying to learn more about what makes you happy.

According to the Merriam Webster Dictionary, polyamory is the state or practice of having more than one open romantic relationship at a time. Big subject that we are going to try to discuss in a 50 min course! It will be a faster flowing class as there is not “one way” to have a Poly relationship, thus a lot of information will be talked about. We’ll touch on what images of Poly bring up for different people, different structure possibilities of a Poly Family, some of the basic tools of what is needed to help a Poly relationship work, the possibility of and different types of “The Rules”, and some misconceptions of what Poly people do. Time permitting we’ll end with an open forum at the end to help answer any questions.

Jealousy is the dirty little secret of the poly world. Do you feel it? How do you deal with it? Is it possible to overcome it? Mir leads a group discussion based on the Practical Jealousy Management workshop developed by poly author Franklin Veaux. We will talk about the root causes of jealousy and steps to help you eliminate it. You’ll gain concrete ideas and tools to take home with you and use in your relationships in the future.

Don’t let the name fool you – Kinky Laughter Yoga is like no yoga class you’ve ever seen! Boi Kris, a Certified Laughter Yoga Leader (laughteryoga.org) has created his own twisted, kinky version of this world-renowned health and fitness craze that will leave you recharged, revitalized and ready to play!

Sometimes kink is really complicated. Sometimes it’s just hitting people with style. Join Loki for mostly the latter.

So what’s day-to-day life like when you’re actively polyamorous? While that’s a completely individual experience, the panel will discuss how polyamory affects and directs our everyday lives. From family structures to solo-polyamorists, each of us is joined by a desire to experience multiple loves in happiness and joy. We’ll talk about living situations, time management, metamours and growing pains.

Loki has been called by the Horned One in many forms since 1994. First called to Herne, then Cernunnos and, since 2002, has served as a Child of and Priest of Pan. His service to the Kink and Poly communities include multiple featured and guest speaker appearances as well as acting as the Organizer of the Indy Poly Meetup since 2006 and the Organizer for Labor Day Libertine/Jeweled Lotus since 2009.

He is also acting as Project Manager for Aether Hill — an initiative at Our Haven Nature Sanctuary to develop low-forest-impact walking trails and campsites with minimal flora disturbance.

Teams are divided into actors and directors. Directors take turns moving a part of an actor one move only, as if manipulating a mannequin. The object of the game is to get the actors into a comprising configuration in as few moves as possible. The actors and directors then switch roles.

This presentation is geared toward those that have heard the term Master/slave but know very little about what the relationship dynamic entails. We will discuss theory including negotiations, contracts and rules. The practice of living as Master and slave; protocols, rules and day to day living. Our personal path, how we got to where we are today.

Mishi K has been living Poly for that last 5+years. She has presented on several Poly topics at Labor Day Libertine as well as a guest speaker on various Poly panels at other events.

You know you can romantically love only one, or maybe you can love many. But have you ever wondered why? Join us for a moderated discussion on how a person’s personality may interplay with how we are raised to create the the vision of intimate fulfillment we all seek.

Denial or overload? Which do you think they should have? (By popular demand 😀 )

Self Explanatory demo

What you find in your local thrift, kitchen, hardware or big box store can produce all kinds of fun!

New to kink and short on funds or curious about bondage but don’t want to spend a fortune just to find out your partner is allergic to rope? In this presentation we show you how to make toys from items found easily at farm stores, Walmart and the dollar store. A list of resources and toy making instructions will be provided.

Switching is in the mind of the beholder. I have been holding the whip and not been the one with the power. I’ve given myself up completely and had no thoughts in my head about what was coming next. I’ve topped from the bottom when should have(and when I shouldn’t have). Switches exchange power in many ways and can have a relationship fluid enough that power flows back and forth by the moment. Or static enough that every move is planned. Want more info? We may not have it but Mark and I will do our best to explain the basic.

In Poly 101 we will work together to develop a comprehensive definition of Polyamory, compare and contrast it to other forms of non-monogamy, discuss the vastly different ways polyamory is practiced and examine the core relationship skills that help polyamory thrive

Introduction with plenty of time for Q&A

Long distance polyamory. It’s full of pratfalls and joys.

Whether your poly journey is just beginning or well-established, this class will give you further resources to learn more about polyamory – books, websites, conferences, and more!

What are you hoping to learn and experience at Labor Day Libertine? Come share your poly story with your fellow campers and find out how similar and different we all are!

Non-monogamy comes in many forms, and different communities have different paradigms for how they approach and think about relationships, including but not limited to sex. This panel will discuss different approaches to ethical non-monogamy, and give participants the opportunity to share their own experiences with different places on the spectrum.

Misty discusses how polyamory affects children, how to parent effectively while being polyamorous, and how to help children manage the effects of their parents’ poly relationships. This topic also delves into whether or not to divulge one’s poly status and how to do so in a healthy manner

An introduction to a few of history’s most notable sacred whores, and an open discussion about what it means to identify as a Sancta Meretrix today.

Sarah has been involved in the BDSM community for over two decades. She met Kris in 2013, and joined him in his adventures shortly after that.  They are now happily married and engaged in a fluid power exchange dynamic which is most easily described as a yin yang. She primarily channels her Caregiver and Advocate archetypes, but is also an enthusiastic glitterdyke garden gnome, a combination usually strikes fear into people (especially the glitter!!).

She co-produced the Body Spirit Mind and Trick-Her-Treat events with Boi Kris, and currently serves as the Marketing Coordinator for Power eXchange Summit and Beyond The Love, both based in Columbus Ohio.  Sarah loves thoughtful dialogue with others who are also interested in the “why” of WIITWD, and learning fresh perspectives to add complexity and depth to her own ever-evolving Lifestyle paradigms.

In her professional life she herds very, very smart cats.  Her passions include dancing and feeding people.  Together, she and Boi Kris are in the home stretch of raising very spirited teenagers, and when not traveling to events they can often be found floating down a local river, relaxing and brainstorming new classes and workshops!

How does the pursuit of ecstasy and joy mix with leading a spiritual life? You are supposed to suffer to actualize, right?

More than 20 years ago, the psychologist Arthur Aron succeeded in making two strangers fall in love in his laboratory. He used only two simple techniques: one to establish trust and emotional intimacy between the strangers, and another to help the strangers fearlessly set aside their everyday persona masks and engage on a deeper level. These methods have been replicated in lab studies numerous times, and typically lead to the two participants falling in love with each other. In this workshop, Soror Ariadne will introduce you to these exercises and discuss the brain chemistry and psychology behind their effectiveness. For those who are willing, she will also lead you through Dr. Aron’s two techniques with a consenting partner of your choice. Come and deepen the love that you already share with a partner, learn about how love works in the brain, or maybe fall in love with a stranger!

So you picked up a copy of Fifty Shades of Grey and got an excited tingle in your belly when you read about Ana. Or maybe you were the one who wanted to be tied up when you played Pirates or Cowboys & Indians as a child. But whatever your path, you’ve arrived at a point where you feel you would be a good submissive in a Dominant/submissive relationship and want to know more about it. Join us as we discuss various facets of what it means to be a submissive and learn how to separate the facts from the fictions.

Show us what you can do! Or just show us what you like to do in front of an audience!  Love to make your puppy sit up, roll over and beg? Let’s see! Can you squirt? cum while doing handstands? insert a softball? We wanna watch! Do you just love to fuck in front of people? So do we!  Exhibitionists and Voyeurs alike will find something to love at this event. Come to the Stage and show off your sexy or sadistic tricks for 10 minutes and see what your fellow perverts can do.

Genderqueer, agender, bi-gender, ambigender, transgender, cisgender. New words to describe gender identity and presentation seem to be popping up everyday, but what do they mean and why do they matter? What is gender anyway? And what, exactly, is a Genderbread Person? This trans and non-binary 101 class will explore some of the exciting discussions surrounding gender identity, provide resources, answer questions, and discuss ways to be a good ally to the trans community. This is our chance to push ourselves, challenge our assumptions and ask all those burning questions as the ongoing debates and media attention evoke heated conversations in mainstream society. Bring your thoughts, perspectives and curiosity and lets think about the ways the gender influences us all.

Discusses how different media portray relationships, violence (with examples) and how people are influenced by music, books, movies and television. It addresses both polyamory and monogamy. I prefer opening with the presentation and letting it evolve into round table because I know that though my ideas are good, there are people who probably have better ones. Discussion topics include: violence, degradation of women in music using lyrics from popular songs, domestic violence and abuse, portrayals of books in film (Disney’s Quasimodo is a good example), 50 Shades, and in general, how media affects the way people perceive and judge things.

Have you ever considered learning yoga but were too chicken? Afraid you’d have to contort your body like a pretzel while standing on one leg? There is an easier way. Come learn about poses (asanas as they’re known in yoga) that will help you get in touch with your body & spirit, increase your flexibility and improve your balance all while connecting with the divine energy. (some mats will be available but please bring your own if you have one)

Yoga was developed to make it comfortable for practitioners to stay still in one positions (for meditation) for a long time. Getting bound up in rope also tends to cause people to stay still in one position for a long time, making yoga a great practice to help prepare for rope play. This class will be appropriate for people at all levels, and will focus on opening the muscles of the shoulders, back and hips to make binding more comfortable.
